How to Check If Your Network Cable Is Working

A faulty cable can prevent network access. 

Steps to Test a Network Cable 

     1. Try Another Cable 

a. Swap with a known working cable. 

     2. Use a Different Port 

a. Plug into another wall jack or switch port. 

     3. Check Link Lights 

a. Look for blinking lights on the NIC or switch. 

     4. Use a Cable Tester 

a. If available, test for continuity and signal.
