What to Do If a Network Jack Isn’t Working

If a wall jack or Ethernet port isn’t providing connectivity, follow these steps to troubleshoot. 

Steps to Diagnose a Dead Network Jack 

     1. Test with a Known-Good Cable 

a. Swap the cable with one that’s confirmed working. 

     2. Try a Different Device 

a. Plug in a laptop or VoIP phone to confirm it’s not device-specific. 

     3. Check Link Lights 

a. Look for blinking lights on the device’s network port. 

     4. Report to IT or Facilities 

a. Include jack location, device type, and test results.
