How to Test a Network Cable for Faults

If a device isn’t connecting to the network, the cable may be damaged or mis wired. 

Steps to Test a Network Cable 

     1. Inspect the Cable 

a. Look for visible damage, bent pins, or loose connectors. 

     2. Try a Known-Good Cable 

a. Swap with a cable that’s confirmed working. 

     3. Use a Cable Tester 

a. Plug both ends into a cable tester to check for continuity and correct wiring. 

     4. Check Link Lights 

a. Connect the cable to a device and switch—look for blinking lights. 

     5. Still not working?
